2008 Year in Review

Calscape 2008

Once again we attended our annual industry conference, which was held in Palm Springs this year. In the past Greenery has been recognized for our award winning projects such as the Hyatt Regency Hotel, the Sheraton Eau Claire and Fluor Canada. This year we decided that we should recognize one of our own. Linda Anderson, a 13 year employee with Greenery received an award for her outstanding horticultural work and dedication. We would like to send out a special thank you to all of Linda's clients who responded with tremendous letters of support. After the conference, Linda, Jacinthe, Rennie and his wife Joanne enjoyed a few days of the California sun and beach. Since this was Linda's first time on a plane, you can imagine that this experience was extraordinary.

We continue to support this amazing organization. When Wellspring opened its doors, Greenery was there to supply beautiful plants and service as well as a seasonal display at the entrance.

In January, a Horticultural Therapy program started and again, Greenery assisted by financially sponsoring the program. It was a huge success as you see by the letter at right (click to zoom).

Plantscapes of the Future

Green Wall article in Building magazineGreen Wall article in Building magazine

Presently we are consulting on a fabulous new building lobby that will incorporate a "Living Wall". This new trend in vertical planting is quite an interesting feat of engineering and a very exciting project for us.

Stay tuned for more information but if you would like more info on living walls, take a look at the article (1.8 megabyte PDF file).

We lost a friend, Debbie Farren

We would also like to acknowledge the passing of one of our own, the warm and gentle Debbie Farren. Debbie's passing affected all of us at Greenery. We enjoyed working with her for several years before her health started to fail. We will be creating a memorial award called "The Spirit of Greenery" in honour of Debbie. Employees of Greenery will be nominated by their peers and the award will be presented in the new year.

A Greenery Guest!

This past summer we had a visit from Julie Farrow, CEO of the The Plantscapers from Orange Country California. After touring some of our jobs in the city, Julie and I headed west for her Canadian Rocky Mountain experience. I have had the pleasure of touring Julie’s operation and it was a pleasure to host her here in Calgary.

Australia

Joanne with Adrian at Sydney Opera House

Well I started the new year in Australia! You have probably heard about the amazing fireworks in the Sydney harbour, well they are just fantastic! We spent 2 months in Australia touring the east coast. The absolute highlight of the trip was a 3 day boat trip in the Whitsunday Islands where we snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef. A few other special events would be visiting the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, golfing with the kangaroos, boogie boarding on the fabulous beaches and visiting the wine country of the Hunter Valley. By the way, our super tech Adrian was in Sydney as well and we met for a drink near the Sydney Opera House.
