We will be sad to see Terry leaving us. Her second child will be here next month and we wish her and her family well. We are thrilled to add Debbie, Liza, Kelly and Kristine to our staff.

Industry News

Carmen and I attended Calscape Expo in early September. It was a terrific educational experience as well as a great trade show. We spent a lot of time networking with industry friends sharing ideas and learning from each other.

In Memory

September 11th affected more people than we can imagine. I will be reminded forever because September 11th is my birthday. Many of my industry friends were affected by this tragedy and our thoughts are with them.

Summer 2001

I just returned from summer leadership with ALCA at Amelia Island Plantation, Florida. It has a nice tropical sound, doesn't it? This is always a terrific learning experience. Sharing ideas with business associates and laughing at life in the Green Industry is a great way to spend a few days. The highlight of the week was the Survivor Beach Olympics. I met a couple of crazy lawyers from Memphis, Tennessee who are threatening to show up for Stampede 2002.
Speaking of Stampede, it was a blast! Our Chickwagon had a fantastic week! The Greenery staff participated in a fun scavenger hunt and a wild Stampede party mid-week. Thanks to our extremely generous clients who assisted our technicians in the hunt.

Staff News

We are sad to say goodbye to Jennifer, but we wish her well as she heads back to school. We have been very fortunate to add to our staff the following technicians: Zoe, Il Ung, Chrissy, Laurrie and Kristine. Clare is now in the office and Trevor is installing all of the new plants that Carmen and Bernice are ordering. Congratulations to Kathryn who just celebrated one year with Greenery.

New Clients

We welcome the following new clients: seminole Canada Energy, Quortech Solutions, Capture Energy, Pitney Bowes, RBH, and Bow Valley Insurance.

A Call From Ground Zero For Industry Help!!

By MJ Gilhooley /Plants At Work - Nov 19, 2001

The Plants At Work Initiative Gets Involved At Ground Zero -- Needs Industry Support!

M.J. Gilhooley, representing the Interior Industry Growth Initiative's Plants at Work campaign announced an exciting interior plant project underway near ground zero. Two of the Plants at Work sponsors have already made steep commitments to this important and timely project and are now calling for support from the remainder of the industry. In addition, Plants at Work will be sponsoring an essay writing contest at the Stuyvesant High School at ground zero. Stuyvesant offers a rigorous mandated and elective program in the sciences. The schools alumni include some of the most renowned professionals in the country.

This fury of activity follows a November 8, New York Times article titled, "Green Air Purifiers vs. Ground Zero." The article reported on the air quality issues at the Stuyvesant high school and how the interior industry responded. Eric Keil of Ottor Keil Florist in Huntington, NY arranged for 1,000 plants to be donated and delivered (by DTL Transportation) to the school via 14 Florida nurseries. The donated plants were distributed to the classrooms and offices. Several hundred student volunteers, called Plant Parents, are caring for the plants. According to the schools assistant principal, Annette Arroyo, this has been a tremendous morale booster to the students and the staff at this 3,000-student school that has experienced much trauma in the past two months. On November 5th CBS radio ran a national story on this remarkable plant donation.

Will Creed, father of a student at the school and owner of New York's Horticultural Help assessed the schools newly donated plants. Will is working with the students and staff to ensure that the students are provided with good care instructions and to make this a worthwhile educational experience for them. HOW YOU CAN HELP: "There is real concern about keeping the plants alive over the upcoming long holiday weekends" says Will. "Barb Helfman, Plants at Work spokesperson and owner of TOPsiders has agreed to ship 1,000 sets of Sippers to the school. As this is a very large expense," adds Creed, "Barb Helfman and Plants at Work are making an appeal to others in the industry to contribute by helping offset this cost." Will Creed continues, "You can become a Plant Parent by sending a check payable to "Topsiders-Sippers". Please mail your contributions to Barb Helfman, Topsiders, PO Box 428640, Cincinnati, OH 45242. The suggested contribution is $50, but any amount is welcomed. Contributions that exceed Barbs costs will go to the Plants at Work High School Essay Award!" It is requested that all contributions be made before December 18th.
